Grambling State University's School of Social Work received the "Volunteer Agency of the Year" Award by The Wellspring Alliance for Families (formerly the YWCA of NELA). The award was presented during the organization's annual meeting and luncheon held Jan. 28.

This award was presented due to the excellent work performed for the Wellspring Alliance for Families by GSU social work students.

The Alliance has been an internship site for graduate and undergraduate students for at least 10 years.

"GSU has some of the most caring and prepared students we have had the opportunity to work with," said Judy Bell, president and CEO of The Wellspring Alliance.

Currently, there are three interns at The Wellspring Alliance, including Stephanie Dunn and Jessica Byrd, both graduate students, and LaKeidra Baker, an undergraduate student.

Look for upcoming news on the School of Social Work's Second Annual Symposium on March 5 at Trinity United Methodist Church. The speaker for the occasion will be Dr. Tony Lowe, a Grambling State University BSW alumnus.
