As collegians we often forget the simple things.
It's true that the major but not sole reason we are here is to develop and strengthen our minds, but somewhere along our journey we forget to show love for its counterpart, the body.

One of the most common excuses I hear from women at Grambling State University about why they don't exercise regularly is that they don't want to look like a man.

Some actually own up to just being lazy. Either way, I hope to shed some light and offer helpful tips to keep them looking and feeling great.

For as beautiful as you are, ladies, nothing lasts forever. Your body is your temple but one day it might fail you.

Our youthful arrogance makes us procrastinate sometimes beyond comprehension. And you should know what excuses are.

These years are some of the most critical years when it comes to how our bodies are shaped.

Regular exercise is something we've heard since grade school and it's not a game or gimmick.

We forget this fact as we play Russian roulette with our bodies.

Vices such as smoking, drinking, and excessive sleeping will catch up with us one day.

So when you are 33 years old with children and reminisce over a Nic Beem picture from a Country Club party, staring at how that dress looked on you then versus now, don't blame your child for your figure.

Think about yourself.

Exerting positive energy at least an hour a day can lead to a boost in morale as well your body.

As a man, I'm not asking for you to bench 220 pounds or even to be extra slim, but your health does matter to us.

And if you all don't show interest in your own health, how can we?

It's not all about having the beach body. It's about increasing your life options by being as healthy as possible.

Physical inactivity contributes to heart disease among other illnesses.

So here are a few tips to help out if you can't get to the gym:

*Before bed each night do a minimum of 50 crunches or 25 sit-ups, and 10 pushups.

*Over the course of the week run a mile or more collectively.

*Stretch when you get up and before you sleep.

*Keep fluids like water and juice in your system, instead of acidic beverages.

*Slow down on too many bad habits at one time.

Notice I left out eating habits. I believe Black people will eat whatever we desire.

So if this is the case, you will need a personal trainer or Jesus to save you.

All jokes aside, women, I love you. I respect you of all shapes and sizes, and want you to be around for a very long time.

So instead of putting all of your energy into looking good to go to Plush, use that same fervor with your fitness before you start looking like a plush stuffed animal.
