GSU students attend Southern University Pre-Law Day

Grambling State Universitywas represented in attendance as well as participation during a recent Southern University Pre-Law Day conference.

Nine GSU students, Annie Millage of GSU Career Center and Dr. Lurie Thomason of the Criminal Justice Department attended the 17th Annual Pre-Law Day at Southern University. The law conference was held at Southern's Law Center.

Various topics covered at the conference included law school admissions, study, financial aid, character and fitness trait and legal careers. Highlights of the conference included GSU students meeting two Grambling State alumni, who are currently enrolled in law school.

First-year law student Jared Evans, greeted the participants and told them that GSU paralegal programs, and Dr. Herbert Simmons in particular, had prepared him "for the rigors" of law study at Southern.

Second-year law student Joi Boone completed an internship Summer 2009 at the Orleans Public Defender's Office and now aspires for a career in legal criminal law as a prosecutor or as a public defender.

Where was Grambling's Political Science Dept. during pre-law day? The Political Science Dept. has a pre-law curriculum but doesn't support pre-law activities for its students. (Continued…)
